Belarus, Iran Should Counter Financial Crisis Jointly - Lukashenko

MINSK. Dec 12 (Interfax) -Belarus and Iran could join forces to offset the negative impact of the world financial crisis, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"Neither Belarus nor Iran has anything to do with the emergence of this crisis. But we need to make joint efforts to steer our countries out of it. We will have to take large-scale and vigorous measures to jointly overcome this crisis," Lukashenko said at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in Minsk on Friday.

"An economic crisis is raging in the world today. This crisis is not only of an economic nature. It has caused a political crisis in individual nations," the Belarusian president said.

Lukashenko said he knows that the Iranian foreign minister has come to Minsk "with specific proposals and solutions to certain problems surrounding projects that we plan to put into practice."

"We should discuss areas of our efforts as part of contracts that have been concluded. It is necessary to implement them rapidly," he said.
