Belarusian Parliament Okays European Commission Office

MINSK. Dec 12 (Interfax) - The Chamber of Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly has passed a bill that ratifies an agreement with the European Commission to set up the commission's representative office in Belarus.

The document also outlines the office's privileges and immunities.

"The representative office will handle issues related to the implementation of projects between Belarus and the European Union," Valentina Leonenko, a member of parliament's commission for international affairs and ties with the CIS, said presenting the bill.

"As soon as this structure appears, Belarus will no longer have to work through the representative office in Kyiv," she added.
