Belarus hopes to buy Russian gas at 140 to 160 dollars next year

MINSK, December 11 (Itar-Tass) - Belarus is hoping to purchase Russian gas at a price not exceeding 160 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters next year, Deputy Economic Minister of Vladimir Adashkevich told a news conference on Thursday.

Adashkevich said Belarus counts on the price keeping within the corridor between 140 and 160 dollars but that given the current situation, it may amount to 140 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.

The talks with Gazprom over the price of gas in 2009 are continuing, he said, adding that the parties might finalize the price by December 25.

Earlier, when prices of oil were soaring on the world market, some suggested that prices of natural gas for Belarus in 2009 might reach 200 dollars or more per 1,000 cubic meters.
