Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez promised to meet Belarus' oil needs for years, The Associated Press reported Dec. 10. The remarks came during Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko's two-day visit to Venezuela. Chavez promised his country and Belarus would jointly produce 50,000 barrels a day in a few years and direct that oil to Belarus. The countries also signed a military cooperation treaty, under which Chavez will buy a missile defense system equipped with radar and anti-aircraft missiles from Belarus.
