Gas supplies to Belarus to continue, Federation Council Speaker says

RBC, 27.12.2006, Moscow 17:41:23.Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov considers it impossible that Belarus would be cut off from Russian natural gas supplies as of January 1, 2007, he said at an internet press conference organized by RBC. According to him, the situation, which arose with Ukraine early this year, could not happen to Belarus. Mironov pointed out that Russia had never used its competitive advantages as a means of blackmailing other countries. He reiterated that all stoppages of gas supplies to Ukraine happened because of Ukraine. However, Mironov did not forecast the outcome of negotiations with Belarus. Mironov added that the Russian proposal was beneficial for Belarus, as the price could increase if the current offer was not accepted.
