BelCel sees data transfer network expansion by January 7

MOSCOW, Dec 22 (Prime-Tass) -- Belarusian mobile operator BelCel expects by January 7 to expand its high-speed data transfer network over the entire territory of Minsk, the country's capital city, the company said Friday.

BelCel said it expected to expand the network to eight more Belarusian cities in the same period.

The company launched the network, based on EV-DO technology, earlier this year in Minsk.

Founded in 1993, BelCel was the first mobile operator in the country and originally operated an NMT-450 network before introducing IMT-MC-450 standard services under the Diallog trade mark. The Netherlands? CIB BV holds 50% in the company, while Belarusian state company Beltelecom holds the other 50%.

Belarus' mobile market is split among Mobile Digital Communications (MDC), MTS Belarus, Belarus Telecommunications Network, or BeST, and BelCel. The first three operate GSM networks, while BelCel operates an IMT-MC-450, or CDMA2000, network.
