Belarus-Poland Trade Turnover May Reach $1.8 Billion

The trade turnover between Belarus and Poland may reach $1.8 billion in 2005, Economic Councilor of the Embassy of Belarus to Poland Alexander Averyanov informed.

The volume of trade in goods is expected to make $1.35 billion in 2005, the rest will be added by the trade in services.

Belarus-Poland trade turnover has practically tripled over the past three years.

Belarus exports to Poland petroleum products, liquid associated gas, potassium fertilisers, caseine, tractors, metal goods, trucks, timber, cement. In return, the country imports meat (pork), chipboard, vacuum valves and tubes, fruit.

In 2004 Poland invested over $28 million in the Belarusian economy, or 45% up on 2003. Today, Belarus has around 350 companies with Polish capital.

Polish companies participate in several projects on the territory of Belarus, namely, modernisation of Bereza Heat Power Plant, restoration of sugar refineries, re-equipment of bakeries and dairy plants, production of micro-buses Lyublin-3 on the premises of Yunison CJSC.

Belarus is planning to expand the export of MAZ trucks and MTZ tractors to Poland. It is also planned to export more BelAZ dump trucks to Poland.

The Belarusian-Polish intergovernmental agreement on economic co-operation that came into force December 2005 will contribute to the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
