National fixed line operator Beltelecom has announced plans to provide fibre-optic connections to all Belarus' district centres by the end of 2005: currently 114 out of the total 118 centres are connected. The telco has been deploying an 837km fibre-optic backbone network during 2005; 42% of the capacity will be used for fixed line telephony services, 17% for data transmission and internet and the remainder for mobile communications.
