Cuban Foreign Minister Welcomes Counterpart from Belarus

Dec. 7 (AIN) Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque met on Tuesday in Havana with his counterpart from Belarus, Victor Gaisionok, to assess the positive development of the two nation's relations and the world situation.

The officials analyzed aspects of the reform of the United Nations and the re-vitalization of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries - a Third World group over which Cuba will assume the presidency next year.

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno informed the visitor that the island is interested in the issue of development once again being included on the UN's agenda. The issue of development has been taken over by the west and handed over to financial institutions like the World Trade Organization.

Belarus is a member of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries and has maintained a firm posture against Washington's blockade of the island in all of international forums. The European diplomat arrived in Havana on Monday on a working mission which will conclude on Friday.
