Azeri president receives leader of Belarusian Orthodox Church

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday received Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of all Belarus.

The president commented on the importance of Metropolitan Filaret's participation in the Baku conference Interreligious Dialogue: from Mutual Understanding towards Cooperation.

Aliyev expressed confidence that Metropolitan Filaret's visit to Azerbaijan and the conference discussions would contribute to developing relations between the two countries and strengthening interreligious dialogue.

Metropolitan Filaret praised the relations between the two countries, saying they have very solid foundations. He was sure that the two countries' historic friendship would further contribute to developing bilateral relations.

The conference is taking place in Baku on 6-7 November to mark the 60th birthday of the chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Department, Allahshukur Pashazade, and the 30th anniversary of his appointment as Sheikh ul-Islam.
