Lukashenko says Berlusconi's visit "vivid gesture" of support

MINSK, November 30 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said he considered Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's visit to Minsk not only in the context of bilateral relations with Italy but also as "a vivid gesture" of support to Belarus in the international arena.

"We consider your country as a privileged partner and are ready to create the most favourable conditions for the development of bilateral relations," Lukashenko said.

He said the steps taken by the Italian leadership of Italy had made Italy an important political and economic partner in Europe.

"For its part, Belarus is prepared for serious work to develop cooperation with Italy in all fields: trade, economy, loans, investments, banking, transport, logistics, science and technology," the president said.

In his opinion, existing and newly made agreements between the two countries will lay a strong foundation for expanded economic and investment cooperation. "Our meeting should send a clear political signal to begin more active joint work of the governments, ministries and agencies," Lukashenko said.
