Presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan meet in Minsk

Baku. Viktoria Dementieva - APA. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, who is paying an official visit to Belarus, met with his counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, APA reports quoting BELTA.

Ilham Aliyev noted that he was happy to visit Belarus with an official visit and to continue a dynamic bilateral dialogue. According to him, Belarus-Azerbaijan links are increasingly vibrant. Within a relatively short period of time the countries exchanged visits on the highest level and on the level of heads of government.

According to the President of Azerbaijan, it is important that the agreements reached during these visits are implemented efficiently. The main thing is the responsibility as these resolutions are fulfilled. He also noted that the Belarus-Azerbaijan trade turnover has been increasing despite the crisis, which is a rare phenomenon in present times.

Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that Belarus and Azerbaijan will remain committed to active political cooperation and new economic projects. He said that the large delegation he brought to Minsk represents all sectors of the Azerbaijani economy.

Alexander Lukashenko said that trade and economic cooperation with Azerbaijan is productive. Over the last few years the countries increased the mutual trade by almost 11 times. The countries have determined the areas to work together in, they create joint ventures, reach into new markets. The Belarus President was satisfied with the fact that all the agreements, which are reached at the highest level, are always fulfilled.

Yet the Belarusian head of state believes that the potential of the two countries is not fully used. The two countries could increase the mutual trade over $500 million within 2-3 years, said Alexander Lukashenko. He pointed out that even in the crisis year Belarus and Azerbaijan demonstrate good trade figures, with the mutual trade on the rise.
