6 Belarusians arrested for anti-communism rally

MINSK, Belarus (AP) - Police have arrested six opposition activists who briefly protested outside of Belarus' chief security agency to mark the anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution.

Several dozen activists carrying banners reading rallied outside the KGB headquarters in Minsk. Several tried to splash red paint on a statue of

Felix Dzherdzhinsky, considered the founder of the Soviet secret police system.

Organizer Nikolai Demdenko said that communism remained in Belarus.

The rally Friday lasted around 10 minutes before city police and special agents began rounding people up.

The ex-Soviet republic is ruled with an iron fist by President Alexander Lukashenko, who has openly lamented the demise of the Soviet Union.
