Belarus Shows Interest in New Cooperation Initiatives of Eu

MINSK. Nov 6 (Interfax) - The new cooperation initiatives of the European Union are of interest for Belarus, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Popov told a Thursday press briefing.

"The new proposals are really interesting. We want closer relations with Europe and harmony of economic, ecological and other standards," he said in comments on the EU offer to cooperate in agriculture, food security, financial institutions and unified quality standards.

Belarus and the European Union are switching to practical cooperation, Popov said.

Asked what homework the European Union has asked Belarus to do, Popov said, "The sides do not thrust anything on one another. Our fundamental principle is mutual respect."

"Belarus does not dodge questions asked by European partners," he added.
