Kadhafi begins Belarus visit

Minsk, Belarus - Libyan leader Mouammar Kadhafi Sunday began a visit to Belarus, the second stage of his tour of Asia, which has already taken him to Russia. Before leaving for Minsk, the capital of Belarus, the Libyan leader held talks with Chechen president Ramadan Gadrov, several Russian Muslim leaders and those of the community of independent states as well as religious personalities from Belarus, Uzbekistan and Tajikstan, among others.

Kadhafi also held talks with Russian president Dimitri Medvedev on ways of promoting the relations between their two countries in various areas, as well as on matters related to world peace and security.

The Libyan leader also held talks with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Libyan/Russian relations, especially the activation of the agreements signed between the two countries.

During the three-day visit to Russia, the two countries stressed the need to extend their bilateral relations to cover - in addition to military and political fields - the areas of trade and investments.

Russia and Libya agreed to set up a joint venture bank and signed a cooperation agreement in the use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes
