US Treasury Puts Sanctions On Lukashenko-Controlled Conglomerate
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. Treasury Department has designated Belarus' largest petrochemical conglomerate as being controlled by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.
The action Tuesday adds Belarusian State Concern for Oil and Chemistry to Treasury's list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons. Any assets the conglomerate and its entities hold under U.S. jurisdiction must be frozen.
"Today's action tightens our sanctions against Lukashenko and his cronies by imposing financial sanctions against a massive conglomerate under the regime's control," said Adam Szubin, director of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control.
