South Korea, Belarus to expand economic co-op

SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Xinhua)-- South Korea and Belarus agreed on Monday to expand cooperation in trade, investment, information technology and science on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic ties, South Korean Presidential Office said.

South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and visiting Belarussian Prime Minister Sergey Sidorsky reached the agreement during their meeting at the Presidential Office, where the two leaders discussed ways to enhance practical cooperation between the two sides, said Roh's Spokesperson Kim Jeong-seop.

"The two leaders agreed to accelerate South Korean enterprises' inroads into Belarus and shared the view that South Korea's planned opening of its embassy in Belarus this month will provide important momentum for deepening bilateral relations," the spokesman said.

Sidorsky arrived in South Korea on Sunday for a three-day official visit.

He plans to meet with South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo late Monday afternoon to discuss detailed measures to boost bilateral cooperation, the spokesman said.

The trade volume between South Korea and Belarus stood at 90.6 million U.S. dollars in the first seven months of the year, the South Korean government said.
