Minsk hosting Communist and Workers' parties

Minsk, Belarus, is welcoming delegations participating in the annual international meeting of Communist and workers' parties. This year's forum, with the theme "The 90th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution; Its Urgency and vitality; Communists Combating Imperialism and Backing Socialism," will be held in Minsk Nov. 3-5.

After the meeting in Minsk, the delegates will go to Moscow, Russia, to participate in events organized by the central committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

As of Oct. 30, the Belarusian capital had already received representatives of the Communist parties of Spain, Greece and Sudan. On Oct. 31, a delegation from Bahrain was expected to arrive, according to Tatiana Golubeva, first secretary of the central committee of the Communist Party of Belarus.

About 80 delegations of Communist and workers' parties from all the continents are expected to attend. The total number of participants in the forum is expected to exceed 150. Among them will be Gennady Zyuganov, chair of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation; Aleka Papariga, general secretary of the Communist Party of Greece; and delegations from the Communist parties of China, Cuba and Vietnam.

The forum will focus on the anniversary of the October Revolution, and several speeches will mark the event. Tatiana Golubeva will report on the role of the revolution in the history of the Belarusian people.

The participants will consider the international Communist movement and the situation in different regions of the world, and adopt documents and resolutions. Other plans include placing flowers on the monument to Vladimir Lenin and at the base of the Victory Obelisk, which was erected to honor the Soviet and partisan troops who died heroically in the war against Hitler fascism. The delegates will also visit Belarusian industrial enterprises.

Golubeva said that this is the first time Belarus has had the honor of hosting the annual meeting of the parties.
