Belarussian president pays tribute to late Imam Khomeini

Visiting Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko and his accompanying delegation here on Tuesday paid tribute to the Father of the Islamic Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini.

Lukashenko, accompanied by a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, arrived here Sunday night for an official two-day visit.

In a ceremony held at the mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Republic in southern Tehran, the delegation laid a wreath on the Imam's grave.

The ceremony was also attended by a number of Iranian and Belarussian officials.

Iran and Belarus are scheduled to sign several protocols for expansion of their economic, political and cultural cooperation.

The Republic of Belarus, a former Soviet state, is a landlocked state in northeastern Europe with a population of 10.2 million. Its capital is Minsk.
