Belarus, Ukraine DefMins sign '07 military cooperation plan

BREST, Belarus, November 23 (Itar-Tass) - Defence Ministers Leonid Maltsev of Belarus and Anatoly Gritsenko of Ukraine, during their meeting here on Thursday within the framework of the session of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Defence Ministers' Council, signed an agreement on the establishment of an "information exchange system" and a 2007 plan for bilateral cooperation between the Armed Forces of Belarus and Ukraine, an official in the press service of the Belarus Ministry of Defence has told Itar-Tass.

"The two Ministers also reached an understanding on preparing for signature in 2007 an agreement between the Defence Ministries of Belarus and Ukraine on cooperation in the field of the safety of the flights of State aircraft," the press service official said.

The Defence Ministers "had a detailed dialogue on the development of the Armed Forces of the two countries at the contemporary stage, on tasks facing the General Staffs in the pursuance of defence policies, on approaches to the training of military personnel, and on research in the interests of developing the armies of the two countries," the official pointed out.

Bilateral military cooperation between Belarus and Ukraine is maintained on the basis of 17 agreements and protocols, the Ministry official recalled.
