Belarusian mobile operator Velcom has launched EDGE services in Minsk on 21 November, reports E-Belarus.org.
According to E-Belarus.org, 95 per cent of Velcom's Minsk base stations support the service. In December 2005, Velcom rolled out EDGE service in the Grodno, Mogilev and Vitebsk regions.Currently, 100 per cent of Velcom's base stations in these regions support the service.
Operator MTS also provides EDGE service in Belarus, covering the regional centres of Minsk, Gridno, Brest, Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Gomel. Both companies are planning to expand their EDGE services.
EDGE (enhanced data rates for GSM evolution) is a digital mobile phone technology that provides increased data transmission rates.
