Beltelecom adds 50,000 fixed phone numbers by end of 2006

Belarusian incumbent Beltelecom is putting 50,000 fixed phone numbers into operation by the end of 2006, reports E-Belarus.org. 30,000 of these numbers will replace outdated facilities at exchanges.

Beltelecom subsidiary Minsk Public Telephone Network currently has 113 exchanges and 780,000 phone numbers, of which 480,000 have been switched to digital exchanges. By the end of 2007, the operator ails to switch an additional 80,000 phone numbers to digital exchanges, with 75 per cent of these numbers replacing outdated facilites. The operator plans to finish its transfer to digital exchanges by the end of 2010. Minsk Public Telephone Network is also planning on launching ADSL services.
