Belarus - a potential market for Vietnamese exports

Belarus is considered a potential market for Vietnamese exports, helping Vietnam penetrate the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) market and other large markets in Europe, according to Deputy Minister of Trade Le Danh Vinh.

During a meeting with Belorussian Deputy Foreign Minister Victor Gaisenok in Hanoi on October 31, Mr Vinh said Vietnamese export enterprises will focus on these markets in the coming time to make the most of their co-operation potential. The Vietnamese Deputy Minister expressed his hope to boost direct trade relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Deputy FM Gaisenok said Vietnamese exports to Belarus increased sharply in 2006, especially seafood, rice, footwear and garment and textile products. However, both sides did not fully tap their potential, he added.

Earlier on October 30, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem received the Belorussian guest who said Belarus attaches importance to developing its relations with Vietnam. He added that the Vietnam-Belarus relationship should be enhanced bilaterally and multilaterally and that the two countries should coordinate closer and support each other at international forums, especially at the United Nations.

The Belorussian diplomat began a three-day visit to Vietnam on October 29.
