Moscow says remarks from Minsk unacceptable

Russian State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov said on Monday recent statements made by Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko were "unacceptable."

Gryzlov said it was wrong to change the neighborly relations between the two peoples.

On Friday, Lukashenko criticized Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's decision to dismiss former Moscow mayor, calling Yuri Luzhkov his personal friend.

Lukashenko has said recently that democracy in Belarus was developing no worse than that in Russia, according to local media reports.

Also in the day, Kremlin spokeswoman Natalia Timakova said relations between Moscow and Minsk "will never be the same (as before)."

Moscow would keep communications with both the government and the opposition in Belarus which was expected to hold presidential elections on Dec. 19, she said.

On Sunday, Medvedev said in a video statement posted in his blog that the tension between Russia and Belarus was meaningless and should come to an end.

Medvedev believed that Lukashenko had based his current pre-election campaign on anti-Russian sentiments, saying "it is clear (Lukashenko) wants to put our peoples at odds."

It would be better for the Belarussian leader to deal with his country's own problems than giving advices on Russia's policy, said Medvedev.

Russia considered Belarus as its closest neighbor, and "I always want to call us a single nation," the Russian president said.

"Russia is ready to develop alliance with Belarus regardlss of who leads each country," he said.
