Moscow hopes for no ultimatums in Belarus elections

Moscow counts that, on the eve of the presidential elections in Belarus, there will be no calls for people to choose between Russia and Europe.

This came in a statement by Foreign Ministry head Sergey Lavrov, currently in Poland for a working visit.

"The starring role goes to the Belarusian people here" - the Minister stressed.

"We would hate to see a repeat of the situation from six years ago, when ahead of the Ukrainian elections we heard battle-cries urging people to choose whether they are with Russia or with Europe", - Lavrov said.

In his words, "there is reason to believe that such calls will be heard in Minsk this time".

"This relates to the fact that Russia and Europe see eye-to-eye on the tasks related to the flourishing of our joint space", - Russia's top diplomat said.
