Official: Russia may lift oil product duty for Belarus from 2012

MOSCOW, Oct 15 (PRIME-TASS) -- Russia may abolish its export duty on oil products supplied to Belarus starting 2012, Russian Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Shatalov told reporters Friday.

It is necessary to develop compensatory measures, otherwise cancelling the export duty would amount to subsidizing the Belarusian economy, Shatalov said.

Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus plan to create a common market by 2012, according to earlier reports.

In June, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko proposed abolishing oil product duties immediately as well as the oil duties due to be implemented on January 1, 2011.
