Belarus completed buckwheat harvesting campaign, the production volumes became lower by one third compared to the initial forecasted level, declared the Main department of plant growing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus.
According to the Ministry, as of October 13, 2010, the general buckwheat production in bunker weight totaled 25.1 thsd tonnes, with the average yield of 10.3 c/ha as opposed to 12.4 c/ha on the same date of the previous year.
As a reminder, previously in 2010 Belarus planned to produce 38 thsd tonnes of buckwheat, therefore Belarusian agrarians sowed buckwheat throughout 34 thsd ha.
However, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food declared that due to the unfavorable weather conditions, nearly 10 thsd ha of buckwheat sowings perished.
The domestic requirements of Belarus in buckwheat groats total 25 thsd tonnes per year. The Government plans to purchase the deficit buckwheat groats from Russia and Ukraine.
