VN, Belarus fortify co-operative ties

MINSK - Important co-operation agreements were signed between Viet Nam and the Republic of Belarus during meetings in the latter's capital on Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has been leading a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the country.

Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister A. Kobiakov told Hai he was impressed by Viet Nam's socio-economic achievements in spite of the impact of the global economic crisis and its enhanced position in the international arena.

He also noted that Viet Nam and Belarus had always co-operated with and supported each other on international issues.

Deputy PM Hai said the visit would be an opportunity for the two countries to reach agreements on further co-operation.

He said Viet Nam was willing to be a bridge between Belarus and ASEAN and Asian countries to help Belarusian businesses exchange products, including milk, processed foods and steel.

Meanwhile, Belarus would create favourable conditions for Viet Nam's traditional products to penetrate its market.

The two sides agreed to enhance co-operation in science, technology and training.

Leaders of the State Bank of Viet Nam and Belarus' National Bank also signed agreements to promote mutual co-operation on economic, finance, information exchange and training as well as supporting each other in solving common issues.

On the same day, Hai met Belarusian House of Representatives chairman V. Andreichenko and other high-ranking parliament members.

Andreichenko said the Vietnamese delegation's visit was a further step towards enhancing traditional relationships between the two countries.

He said he appreciated that the two sides had reached agreements to co-operate in many fields.

In return, Hai briefed Andreichenko on Viet Nam's socio-economic development results and hoped the two sides would create more favourable conditions for businesses and investors to expand their markets.

Hai also passed on thanks from Viet Nam's National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and an invitation for Andreichenko to make an official visit to Viet Nam at a mutually convenient time.

Andreichenko accepted the invitation. - VNS
