Belarusian telecoms operators Beltelecom and BelCel connected their 100,000th user via wireless in the local loop (WiLL) technology on 21 October, e-Belarus.org reports. The two firms have entered into a joint venture project to provide WiLL services in the country using CDMA2000 technology in the 450MHz band. The pair began marketing the service in September 2007 and by the start of this year counted 56,000 users. Today, BelCel says its total subscriber base has increased to 132,000 - including more than 18,000 1xEV-DO users - while monthly data traffic has grown to over 10TB.

BelCel's DIALLOG network currently comprises 184 base stations, 84 of which support 1xEV-DO, and 48 of which support Rev A. In addition, EV-DO coverage extends to 33% towns and cities (55.65% of the population) and overall coverage is 56.36% of the territory where 86.12% of the population live. Urban (city) coverage is even higher at 94.4%.
