Belarus, Latvia discuss instruments for regulating banks liquidity during crisis

The central banks of Belarus and Latvia have discussed a system of instruments for regulating banks liquidity during the crisis. As BelTA was told in the information department of the National Bank of Belarus, this and other urgent issues of bilateral cooperation between the banking systems of Belarus and Latvia were discussed during a visit of a delegation of the National Bank of Belarus to Riga on October 27-28. The delegation was led by Chairman of the National Bank Piotr Prokopovich.

During the meetings and talks with manager of the Bank of Latvia Ilmars Rimshevich, the sides discussed the social and economic development of the two countries, monetary policy. The sides also analyzed the state of the Belarusian and Latvian banking systems and possibilities of expanding cooperation in accounting.

The cooperation between the central banks of Belarus and Latvia has been successful recently. The two sides signed agreements on settlement of accounts and a memorandum of mutual understanding in banking supervision. The Latvian capital is presented in one of the Belarusian banks; offices of the three Latvian banks have been opened in Minsk.

The sides agreed to develop bilateral cooperation in all areas of the activity of the central banks of the two countries including an exchange of experience in monetary policy, accounting, personnel training. The two sides agreed to meet regularly at the level of the heads of the central banks.
