Russian Ministry of Agriculture to Postpone Restriction Imposing on Imports of Products of Animal Origin from 20 Belarusian Enterprises

Russian Ministry of Agriculture will postpone the introduction of restrictions on imports of products of animal origin from 20 Belarusian enterprises from the November 1st to December 1st. This agreement was reached during the negotiations of Aleksey Gordeev, Russian Agriculture Minister and Semyon Shapiro, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus.

Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) was intended to ban imports of products of animal origin from 20 Belarusian dairy and meat processing plants to Russia from November 1st due to the detected violations of Russian veterinary requirements there. Only 3 of 35 inspected enterprises were licensed for exports. The major part of the inspected plants had shipped their products to Russia.

As Aleksey Gordeev says, "Belarusian party knows well all requirements of Russian Veterinary Service and works accordingly in this field". Thus, Russian party agreed to postpone the ban on Belarusian imports to monitor the situation better and make better decision, the Minister specified.

According to Semyon Shapiro, strict measures directed on strengthening of veterinary and sanitary control over dairy and meat processing plants have been taken in Belarus. The list of exporting enterprises including those who export products to Russia has been well defined. The operation of enterprises which can't meet strict requirements of both Russian and Belarusian veterinary legislation will be suspended, and these plants will be reequipped. They will resume operation only after Russian and Belarusian veterinary services come to a mutual decision, Semyon Shapiro underlined.
