Belarus c.bank says has requested IMF credit

MINSK, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Belarus has requested a credit from the International Monetary Fund to uphold stability and economic growth rates in the ex-Soviet state, the central bank said on Wednesday. "We confirm that we have approached the International Monetary Fund to provide a credit to support financial stability, create a cushion of security and to maintain growth rates in the economy," bank spokesman Mikhail Zhuravovich told Reuters. "The amount of the credit depends on the IMF." Interfax Zapad news agency quoted a central bank official as saying it had asked for a $2 billion credit.
