Belarus, Russia Prime Ministers to meet in Minsk

Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky and Head of Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin are set to hold a one-on-one meeting in Minsk on October 6, BelTA learnt from spokesman of the Belarusian Premier Alexander Timoshenko.

The meeting will precede a session of the Council of Ministers of the Belarus-Russia Union State. The session presided by Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin will take place at the Zaslavl-2 residence.

The agenda of the forthcoming session of the Union State Council of Ministers includes more than 20 key issues of the Belarusian-Russian integration: Belarus-Russia trade and economic cooperation, the Union State assets accounting, assessment and management, the Union State budget, the Union State common sci-tech zone. The session is set to consider the Union State draft sci-tech programmes.

The session will review trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Belarus in H1 2008. According to the Union State Permanent Committee, there has been a dramatic increase in the bilateral trade, with over $18 billion in H1, more than 60% up on the same point of 2007.

The issues related to the intensification of trade and economic cooperation within the Union State will be also high on the agenda of the meeting. Belarus and Russia welcome the Union State programmes and projects in all the areas. The Union State draft budget 2009 submitted for the consideration of the Union State Council of Ministers testifies to the fact. The Union State budget is 20% bigger comparing with 2008 to nearly RUR 5 billion. The Union State government is supposed to consider a range of other budgetary issues.

The Union State Council of Ministers will discuss proposals on draft sci-tech programmes: "Development of technologies and pilot production of highly efficient and biologically safe medicines and transgenic milk baby food", "Nanotechnologies for construction of space materials, devices and systems, their adjustment to other fields of application and high-volume manufacturing". The session is due to take decisions on the implementation of several Union State programmes.

The decisions are to be taken on the issues of securing efficient functioning of the regional force of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation that is highly important for the Union State defence.

The session will consider the implementation of a plan of action to create the Union State single information space 2007-2010 and an array of other issues related to the activity of the Union State mass media.

The participants of the session will hear a report on the activity of the Union State Committee joint board on hydrometeorology and pollution monitoring and consider amendments and addenda to the regulations of the Union State Council of Ministers.

The forthcoming session of the Union State will add new impetus to the integration process and pave the way for the adoption of the most important decisions that can be submitted for consideration of the Union State Supreme State Council, the Permanent Committee said.
