Russia decides to give Belarus $2 bln loan - Kudrin

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Russia has decided to allocate Belarus a $2 billion loan, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin told journalists.

"Last week a decision was made to allocate to Belarus a loan worth $2 billion," Kudrin said.

He added that $1 billion would be allocated this year with the remaining $1 billion to be provided in 2009.

Kudrin said that this would be a stabilization loan, a discussion of the terms of which is being finalized. As soon as an agreement is signed, the loan's terms will be announced, he said.

Kudrin added that Russia and Belarus had decided to expand a joint plan to create a united currency, renew partnership in various sectors and put together a new appraisal of the overall economic situation in both countries in light of the world financial crisis.

He also said that the plan to form a united currency had been developed partially as a means of economic stabilization.
