Budget of Union State of Belarus and Russian to increase

MOSCOW, October 16 (Itar-Tass) - The budget of the Union State of Belarus and Russia for 2009 will grow by 20 percent as compared with the budget for the current year, Boris Gryzlov, the speaker of the State Duma and chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union, confirmed on Thursday.

The session of the Union's Parliamentary Assembly that opened in Moscow in the State Duma on Thursday is to endorse the main financial document of the Union State for 2009.

Gryzlov said the budget reflects sizable increase of the shares Belarus and Russia contribute to the revenues part of the budget.

The draft budget envisages 42 cooperation programmes of the Union State, including development of new technologies, ensurance of defence and security, as well as border protection. Besides, the parliamentarians decided to publish a 50-volume collection of works of Russian and Belarussian writers on funds from the budget of the Union State.

Gryzlov estimated that, on the whole, mutual trade turnover of economic players of Belarus and Russia for nine months of 2008 made up over 30 billion dollars, exceeding the 2007 mark.

Gryzlov expressed satisfaction with purposeful work to create the common economic space of the Union State, deepen interstate integration in the economic area, and preserve stability of the national economies in conditions of financial instability in the world. Tariffs on a number of goods were specified and coordinated.

The speaker mentioned increased cooperation at regional level as one of undoubted achievements of union construction, the example of which are mutually advantageous ties and relations of border regions of the two countries.

The speaker also noted that integration processes developed further in the social area. The recent election in Belarus and delegating new representatives to the Union parliament will, undoubtedly "lead to intensification of integration processes in the Union State," he said.
