Belarus' sugar exports to Russia to grow 1.5 times in 2009

In 2009 the exports of the Belarusian sugar to Russia will go up by 1.5 times to 150,000 tonnes, BelTA learnt from the Chairman of the Belgospischeprom Concern Ivan Danchenko.

In his words, Belarusian and Russian sugar makers signed a protocol on the overall balance in sugar production and sales in 2009. This year all Belarusian sugar refineries have made part to the Russian Union of Sugar Producers.

"Our approach is as following - after a complete provision of the domestic market the production surplus will be bound for the markets of Russia in 2009. Such an agreement will be valid within the next five years," the Chairman of the concern said. For example, if the country produces 500,000 tonnes of sugar and the domestic consumption is 350,000 tonnes, the rest 150,000 tonnes will be sold to Russia.

According to Ivan Danchenko, so far Belarus has 137,000 tonnes of sugar produced (133,000 tonnes on the date of 2007).
