Beltelecom's byfly broadband service tops 100,000 subscribers

Since launching its broadband service under the brand name byfly in September 2006, Belarus' national PTO Beltelecom has signed up 100,000 subscribers, e-belarus.org reports. Beltelecom general director Konstantin Tikar, is quoted as saying the telco controls approximately 70% of the national market for broadband services in Belarus and 35% in the capital Minsk. Since 2007 the operator has also been offering a Wi-Fi based internet package and currently offers ten tariff plans ranging from BYR30,000 to BYR120,000 (USD13.94 to USD55.77) per month for residential users and BYR68,000 to BYR1,435,000 (USD31.61 to USD666.98) for businesses. Beltelecom hopes to have signed up 140,000 byfly users by end-2008, rising to 400,000 by the end of next year.
