BISHKEK, October 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) Interstate Council on Friday.
The previous chair, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, had tendered his resignation from the EurAsEC position.
The organization decided to hold its next summit in Moscow in fall 2009.
The EurAsEC is made up of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
