Online advertising million-dollar business in Belarus

Online advertising in Belarus is a million dollar business, reports E-Belarus.org quoting Yuri Zisser, the chairman of Belarusian internet portal Tut.by.

In a speech made at a conference, Yuri Zisser announced that the online marketing volume in Belarus will total $1m by the end of 2006 - which is double the statistics for 2005.

Yuri Zisser attributes this growth to the increasing numbers of internet users in Belarus. According to recent polls, approximately 33 per cent of Belarusian use the internet.

According to the chairman, Belarus has 20,000 web sites in total, of which 2,500 are sites belonging to businesses, 1,800 are internet shops and catalogues (211 - home appliances, 124 - computers, 206 - construction materials, 167 - mobile phones), 239 are media web sites, 542 are web-design studios and 209 are hosting providers.
