Next census to be conducted in Belarus in Oct 2009

MINSK, October 6 (Itar-Tass) - The next census of the population will be conducted in Belarus in October 2009.

President Alexander Lukashenko has signed the corresponding decree.

The numerical strength of the personnel of state statistic services will be increased for the purpose.

The state statistic survey conducted once in ten years is of social and political importance for the country, the presidential press service noted.

The last census was conducted in Belarus in February 1999. It cost about six billion dollars. The population numbered 10,045,200 people at the time. Statistic Ministry specialists say the next census will take 15 million dollars.
