Belarus and Azerbaijan Intend to Sign Agricultural Co-operation Agreement

Within the official visit of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev to Belarus, the Belarus Ministry of Agriculture & Food and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Agriculture intend to sign an Agreement on economical and scientific-technical co-operation with regard to the agro-industrial complex, the Deputy Chief of the Head Department for External Economical Activity of the Belarusian Ministry Anatoly Romanovski told, Trend reports with reference to Belta.

According to him, it is planned to develop the bilateral co-operation between the two countries with regard to plant-growing and cattle-breeding, food and the processing industry. In addition, it will be mutually useful to exchange information regarding the agrarian policy, as well as co-operation with regard to the agrarian education and training of specialists.

Signing the Agreement at an official level will allow the legal establishment of economical relations in realizing trade operations of agriculture and the processing industry, as well as exchanging scientific, technical and economical information, results of scientific research, the holding of joint seminars, symposiums, exhibitions and scientific research.

According to Romanovski, the agricultural trade turnover between the two countries is not significant. The export of Belarus foodstuffs to Azerbaijan over the period of January-August 2006 equaled $192,800 in aggregate. The exported products are canned meat and milk, butter and solid cheese. In the future, Belarus is ready to expand its range of foodstuffs. The destination of the agricultural products from Azerbaijan to Belarus has not been noted.
