Minsk, Oct 7: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat revived fond memories of his young days when he visited the tractor factory here and held parleys with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko during his visit to the country formed after the breakup of the Soviet Union 14 years ago.
Shekhawat's talks with Lukashenko were marked by cordiality and bonhomie, during which he told his host that in India, that tractor had been synonymous with the word 'Belarus' half-a-century ago and that he still used the sturdy machine produced in the country, in his farm in Rajasthan.
Turning nostalgic on the concluding day of his visit to the country yesterday, the Vice President told the Belarus leader that he would like to show him the 'Belarus' in his farm.
Shekhawat's remarks were to drive home the point that the tractors from the erstwhile Soviet Union built at the Minsk factory were a household name in the Indian countryside when, after the dawn of independence, India tried to increase its agricultural production through modern methods. (Agencies)
