Belarus craving Armenian brandy

At its 8th meeting in Yerevan, the Armenian-Belarusian Intergovernmental Economic Commission did not sign a single protocol on production of Armenian brandy in Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Trade Valentin Chekanov told a press conference on September 28.

However, the issue is being discussed. Moldavian and other brandies are produced in Belarus and sell well. "We would like the same to be the case with Armenian brandy. Will there be a factory? We are not signing any protocols, but we are close to founding such a factory," Chekanov said.

The Armenian laws prohibit the trademark "Armenian cognac" from being applied beverages bottled outside Armenia. Minister of Economy of Armenia Nerses Yeritsyan's words said at the conference suggest the Armenian side does not object to the bottling of Armenian brandy in Belarus or to production using Armenian technologies. However, it must not be named "Armenian cognac."
