Military plane crashes in Belarus

AFP

A MIG-29 fighter plane crashed in southern Belarus on Thursday, killing two crew, the defence ministry said.

The aircraft crashed "during planned flights while performing complicated aerobatics," the ministry said.

"The airplane's pilots, Sergei Kovalenko and Alexander Zhigailo, took the craft into forest and swamp areas to prevent it from falling on houses," the ministry said, adding that "the crew died fully meeting their military and professional duty."

A special commission is investigating the incident
