Belarus sowed winter grains throughout over 73% of the planned areas

As of September 20, 2010, agricultural enterprises of Belarus sowed winter grains throughout 73.2% of the planned areas, declared the Main department of plant growing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus.

Agrarians sowed winter grains throughout 1.06 mln ha, an increase of nearly 100 thsd ha compared to the previous year. The average daily sowing rates of winter grains totaled 68 thsd ha, as opposed to 52 thsd ha in the previous year, informed the Ministry. On October 1, 2010, all regions of the country plan to complete the sowing campaign.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food does not exclude the possibility that winter grains sowing areas will occupy the areas, which would exceed the initial planned areas. The current planned areas total 1.45 mln ha, but oblasts of the country plan to increase grain sowing areas in the planned sowing terms.

According to data of the Ministry, as of September 20, agricultural organizations of the country prepared 1.45 mln ha of the soil for the sowing campaign of winter grains, up 0.3% compared to the planned areas.

To date, agricultural organizations of the country continue the harvesting campaign of maize, buckwheat and millet.
