Agreement on crossing Lithuanian-Belarus border to be coordinated

Peras Vaida, BC, Vilnius

Lithuanian diplomats expect this year to coordinate the agreement with Belarus on facilitated procedures for border residents to cross the border. On Thursday, the heads of the consular departments under the Foreign Ministries of both countries met to discuss this issue in Druskininkai.

After Lithuania joined the Schengen area, the residents of Belarus have to pay 60 euros for visa to Lithuania. Such size of the payment was set by the European Union, reports ELTA.

The agreement should provide simpler conditions for persons living at the distance of up to 50 kilometers from the border.

As ELTA was told by the officials of the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, it was not the first meeting of the diplomats of Lithuania and Belarus intended to coordinate the agreement. The agreement is expected to be fully coordinated already this year, however, it will enter into force only when approved by the European Commission.
