Belarus, Latvia agree simplified rules of border crossing for residents of frontier regions

Belarus and Latvia have agreed the simplified border crossing procedures for residents of the frontier regions of the two countries and the list of relative settlements. The draft intergovernmental agreement on this issue was discussed during the Belarusian-Latvian ministerial consultations which were held in Minsk on September 11-12, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

During the ministerial consultations, the Belarusian side was chaired by Head of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry Andrei Giro, the Latvian side - Director of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry Ints Upmacis. Representatives of the governmental bodies concerned of the two countries took part in the consultations.

Moreover, the sides discussed the implementation of the bilateral agreement on mutual trips of the citizens of both the countries which was inked on January 30, 2008 and other avenues of the Belarusian-Latvian cooperation in the consular area.

The head of the Latvian delegation met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky.
