Belarus President: Belarus hopes for expanding links with S Africa

Belarus hopes for the development of broader and more comprehensive contacts with the Republic of South Africa, Belarus President said as he met with South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma on September 11, reported Belta.

"We hope that the forthcoming visit of South African President Thabo Mbeki to Belarus in 2009 will give a boost to the bilateral relations," the Belarusian President noted.

Alexander Lukashenko expressed his hope that the existing intensive dialogue between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries will result in positive developments. "We have a comprehensive agenda which has to be thoroughly considered on the ministerial level in order to step up the cooperation between the countries," the President noted.

The Head of State underlined the interest of Belarus in the development of trade and economic relations with South Africa, expansion of business contacts, increase in the import and export. "The business has already carved its way to new joint projects," Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President stressed that apart from the economic prospects, the two states have good political contacts. They both are active members of the Non-Aligned Movement. "I am sure that our countries should play a significant role in the strengthening of this organization, especially against the background of the present day global challenges," the Belarusian Head of State noted.
