Iran inaugurates major med center

Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Research Center, affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, has been officially inaugurated.

This center, which is considered the best scientific and educational center in the Middle East in relation to tuberculosis and pulmonary disease research, was officially inaugurated on Monday at Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran, Iran.

Five main research groups are installed in this center: macro bacteriology, lung transplantation, tuberculosis and lung disease, tracheal disease, prevention and control of smoking. The bilingual journal 'Tanaffos is published by this center.

Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, the dean of this center, said Masih Daneshvari hospital is an international referral center for tuberculosis and pulmonary disease. "Every day, several cases from East Asia, the Mediterranean and neighbor countries are admitted in this hospital. In addition, many doctors from Central Asia and African countries are supported by WHO to pass educational courses in this hospital."

Velayati also added that the center is looking forward to perform further research in collaboration with other well-known international centers." Nowadays, we are conducting a study in partnership with Belarus in cellular biology. We have also released the results of our study on Afghanis affected with tuberculosis to WHO; the findings are believed to be useful in the control of the disease in Afghanistan.
