Belarus introduced seasonal tariff rates for some vegetables

Seasonal tariff rates for the entrance of certain types of vegetables have come into effect, AgroBel.by informs.

This act is presupposed by the resolution of the Council of Ministers ü1143, dated September 6th 2007.

The resolution comes into effect from the moment of its official publication.

According to this document, the tariff rate for onion is 100% of its custom value, for carrot and table beet - 60%, cabbage - 35% of the custom value. The tariff rates have not been changed since the previous year.

The seasonal tariff rates will be valid till January 1st 2008.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food explained Interfax that "the introduction of the import tariff rates is aimed at the protection of the national agricultural producers, taking into account, if vegetable production is sufficient to satisfy the inner market of the Republic".

The Ministry specialists added, the tariff rates are defined on the basis of the supply balance for each certain type of vegetable.

The import tariff rates for these types of agricultural products have been annually introduced starting from 2004.
